AwaSys

AwaSys is a State-of-the-Art program for long-crested and short-crested wave generation and active wave absorption running under Windows®. AwaSys is a well-proven solution and is used in more than 65 facilities world wide. AwaSys is the software needed to sending target positions to the wave makers (servo controllers) in hydraulic model testing laboratories. AwaSys an be configured for controlling wave makers in flumes or multi-element wave makers in basins.

AwaSys

Main Window

AwaSys runs under Windows giving AwaSys a nice graphical user interface and leads to support of modern PC and data-acquisition hardware. The sea state is defined in a graphical user interface without the need to prepare any files in beforehand. This makes the software very easy to use for both first time users as well as experienced users.

Generation Window

The generation window makes it possible to observe the wave generation process in real time in terms of clipping, paddle movements and surface elevations. Moreover, actual incident and reflected spectra and reflection coefficient are presented based on real time separation of incident and reflected waves.

Active Absorption

AwaSys allows the user to perform wave generation synthesis and simultaneously modify control signals according to an active wave absorption loop. Active absorption of reflected waves is crucial when testing highly reflective structures. AwaSys comes with very effective active absorption systems for both wave flumes and wave basins including absorption of very long waves and multi-directional waves.

2-D Wave Synthesis

AwaSys supports all commonly used sea states in hydraulic model testing. Wave synthesis is available for regular, irregular, solitary and tsunami waves. Regular waves can be generated using linear, 2nd order, cnoidal and add-hoc unified generation based on stream functionwave theory. Irregular waves can be generated according to a number of predefined or user defined wave spectra or user defined surface elevation time series. The irregular sea states can be generated using first or second order theory (bound sub and super harmonics) and using InvFFT methods or filtered white noise. Moreover, AwaSys includes add-hoc unified generation for generation of highly nonlinear irregular waves based on an included Boussinesq wave model. Fianlly, to protect the generator against excessive control signals when running waves close to the limit of the capabilities of the generator AwaSys includes a special soft-clipping routine.

3-D Wave Synthesis

In basin applications with multi-element wave makers the waves can be generated with a specified mean direction and as long (unidirectional) or short-crested (multidirectional) seas. Generation of oblique and short-crested waves can take advantage of reflective sidewalls by use of advanced corner reflection techniques (Dalrymple).
